The STOMP percussion dance troupe was founded on one notion: there is music in everything. The performers use every day household objects such as basketballs, trashcans, newspapers, and brooms to create musical rhythms and amusing choreography in a stunning display of physical theater.
In 1997 the troupe received four Emmy award nominations for their 45-minute HBO special, STOMP OUT LOUD. In 2002 they went on to create the award-winning IMAX film “Pulse: A STOMP Odyssey.”
According the their website, the cast of STOMP goes through this list of supplies over the period of one week:
30 Brooms, 8 Lids, 1 Tall Bin (UK), 5 Short Bins (US), 10 6FT 6IN Poles, 15 Pounds of Sand, 4 Blocks of Athlete’s Chalk, 12 Pairs of Drumsticks, 200 Litres of Water, 8 Bananas, 12 Boxes of Matches
If you want to find out how they manage to use all these objects, come see the show!
